They conclude that every 1.2 million years, the atmospheric pressure varies from 1 to 40 millibars, with heavy variations every 100,000 years. A severe drop in pressure would result in all the atmospheric carbon dioxide freezing at the polar caps and virtually eliminate the planet's atmosphere. Meanwhile, the planet's crust may drift on the mantle in relation to the rotational axis and contribute to climatic changes. Mars: key figures Revolution time around the Sun (Martian year): 686 days, 23 hours, 30 minutes, 41 seconds. Mars's orbit is clearly elliptical, whereas Earth's orbit is almost circular. This means the distance between Mars and the Sun varies over the Martian year. The average distance is 227.8 million kilometers (the figure is 149.6 million kilometers for Earth). Mars's perihelion, the point closest to the Sun: 204.52 million kilometers. MARS BETAT
